Carry Out Basic Demolition Training

Course overview

Safe First Training demolition training has been specifically designed to provide participants with the practical skill, knowledge and competencies required to work safely and efficiently within the demolition industry of Western Australia.

Our training is delivered in accordance with the relevant requirements of the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2022 (WA) and the AS 2601:2025 The demolition of structures, with consideration given to Worksafe Western Australia’s demolition licencing requirements.

The course is suitable for individuals working on demolition sites, those entering the industry and those working towards applying to become a nominated supervisor or obtaining a Class 1 or 2 demolition licence.

Our training focuses on safe demolition practices, hazard identification, risk management and the application of workplace work health and safety requirements.

Important licencing information: completion of this course does not grand you a demolition licence or approval to act as a nominated supervisor. All demolition licence applications must be submitted separately to Worksafe Western Australia. Additional eligibility requirements, including relevant industry experience and other licencing criteria will apply.

What Will I Learn?

Training includes the skills and knowledge required to:

• Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
• Understand workplace duties and responsibilities
• Identify demolition hazards
• Conduct risk assessments and apply appropriate control measures
• Understand hazardous substances and materials
• Understand respiratory protection requirements
• Identify appropriate demolition methods
• Read and understand demolition plans and work plans
• Understand relevant Western Australian WHS legislation
• Understand relevant requirements of AS 2601 – The demolition of structures
• Plan and prepare for basic demolition work
• Prepare the demolition site and equipment
• Safely remove building components
• Select and use appropriate tools and equipment
• Check, clean and store tools and equipment following use
• Apply safe work practices throughout demolition activities

How Is the Course Delivered?

The course is delivered by experienced and knowledgeable trainers through a combination of:

Theory Training

Participants complete the required theory and knowledge components covering demolition hazards, WHS requirements, planning, equipment and safe work practices.

Practical Training

Participants complete practical activities in a simulated work environment to demonstrate the skills required to undertake basic demolition tasks safely.

Workplace Feedback

Students are also required to have a Workplace Feedback Report completed by their employer or an appropriate workplace representative.

Course Duration

1 Day – Approximately 8 Hours

Training is generally completed over one full day.

Additional time may be required where individual learners require additional training, assessment or support.

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Prerequisite Unit

CPCCWHS2001 – Apply WHS Requirements, Policies and Procedures in the Construction Industry

This unit is delivered as part of the training on the day.

Safe First Training requires you to have as part of learning:

National Construction induction White card- CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (or equivalent), evidence of completion is required in either a card or Statement of Attainment. If you do not hold this competency please contact us. (for some students who have been working on other sites such as mines sites this may not be required)

What Do I Need to Bring?

Students should bring:

• Work boots
• Appropriate work clothing
• Required identification
• Any other PPE advised prior to the course
• Lunch where catering is not provided

Information about the training location, PPE requirements, catering and anything else you need to bring will be confirmed before your course.

Student Entry Requirements

Each student must:

• Have a basic level of language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills
• Have the ability to read, understand and communicate in English, or advise Safe First Training before the course if assistance is required
• Provide the required identification
• Be physically able to participate in the practical components of training
• Meet the applicable construction induction requirements

Language, Literacy, Numeracy & Training Support

During enrolment, students will be asked whether they believe they have the required language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills to undertake the training.

If you are unsure, you will be asked to complete an LLN assessment.

Once this has been received, one of our trainers will contact you to discuss your training needs and determine what support may be available.

We encourage students to advise Safe First Training before commencing the course if additional assistance or support may be required.

Certification

Upon successful completion of all required training and assessment, participants will receive a:

Statement of Attainment

for the units successfully completed.

Safe First Training may also provide a plastic wallet card as an additional record of training.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Already have demolition industry skills and experience?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be available.

A participant’s existing skills, previous training and industry experience can be considered as part of the RPL process.

Applicants will be required to provide sufficient evidence demonstrating their competency. This may include:

• Employment history
• Previous qualifications or training
• Workplace documentation
• Photographs or other evidence of completed work
• Employer verification
• An interview or competency conversation
• Practical demonstration or further assessment where required

Construction Training Fund Subsidies

You May Be Eligible for a CTF Training Subsidy

Some participants and employers working within Western Australia’s construction industry may be eligible for funding support through the Construction Training Fund (CTF).

Where eligibility is confirmed, Safe First Training may be able to apply the applicable subsidy to reduce the cost of training.

Eligibility conditions apply and funding is not available to every participant or employer.

“The CTF provides funding support for training of eligible workers in the construction industry. We acknowledge the support of the CTF in reducing the costs of training for eligible workers.”
