The White Card course is general construction induction training for people who need to undertake construction work.

Safe First Training delivers this online White Card course to students who reside in Western Australia.

Evidence of Western Australian residency is required.

Course overview

CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry provides the mandatory work health and safety knowledge required before undertaking construction work.

The course provides students with an understanding of how to work safely and prevent injury or harm to themselves and others.

Training and assessment covers:

• Identifying common construction hazards
• Understanding basic risk control measures
• Identifying and orally reporting construction hazards
• Understanding workplace health and safety requirements
• Health and safety communication and reporting procedures
• Responding to incidents and emergencies
• Correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE)

How Does the Online Course Work?

1. Online Knowledge Assessment

Complete the online learning material and knowledge assessment at your own pace.

2. Verbal Knowledge Assessment

Once your online assessment has been received, one of our assessors will contact you to complete a verbal assessment over the phone.

We usually contact students within 24 hours.

Need your White Card urgently for site? Send us a message after completing your online assessment and we will prioritise your assessment at no extra cost.

3. PPE Practical Assessment

You must demonstrate that you can correctly select and fit the required PPE.

This can be completed:

• By video; or
• In person with Safe First Training.

PPE Required

Students must have access to:

• Hard hat
• Hearing protection
• Eye protection
• High-visibility vest or clothing

Course Outline

During this course you will learn how to:

• Identify health and safety legislative requirements relating to construction work
• Identify common construction hazards
• Identify appropriate risk control measures
• Understand health and safety communication and reporting processes
• Identify incident and emergency response procedures
• Correctly select and fit common construction PPE

Are There Any Prerequisites?

No prerequisite units are required.

Students must, however, have the required language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills to successfully participate in the training and assessment.

Entry Requirements

Each student must:

• Reside in Western Australia
• Provide the required identification and evidence of WA residency
• Have a basic level of language, literacy, numeracy, communication skills
• Have the ability to read, understand and communicate in English, or advise Safe First Training if assistance is required
• Have basic computer and digital skills
• Have access to the internet and a computer, tablet or mobile phone
• Have access to a device capable of recording video for the PPE assessment, unless completing the practical assessment in person
• Have access to the required PPE:
  • Hard hat
  • Hearing protection
  • Eye protection
  • High-visibility vest or clothing

There are no additional fees for priority assessment if you urgently require your White Card for work.

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills

During the enrolment process, you will be asked whether you believe you have the required language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills to complete the White Card course.

If you are unsure or additional support may be required, you may be asked to complete an LLN assessment.

Once the assessment has been received, one of our trainers will contact you to discuss your training needs and determine what support may be available to assist you.

Course Duration

Safe First Training expects learners to formally engage with approximately 4 hours of training and assessment for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry when completing the course online.

The actual time required may vary depending on the learner’s:

• Previous experience
• Existing knowledge
• Language and literacy skills
• Learning ability
• Individual support requirements

Some students may complete the course in approximately 2–8 hours, while others may require additional time.

Online training is self-paced and may be completed over several sessions using the save-and-resume function where available.

The course must be completed within 3 months of commencement.

If the course is not completed within this period, the student may be required to re-enrol and recommence the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of all training and assessment requirements, participants will receive:

• An emailed Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry; and
• A physical Western Australian General Construction Induction Training Card (White Card).
